Will Helena Guergis Run?

Imp says she will--based on a CTV interview from yesterday night--either as a Tory or as an independent candidate. This would be a reiteration of her claim from back in May:

"If it is my only option, say if something happens in the very near future, yes, I will run as an independent," Guergis said.

Its hard to know how much support she would command, but it may be significant that at around the same time she was making the above threatening noises, rumors circulated that members of the Simcoe — Grey CPoC riding association executive were resigning in significant numbers over the party's discarding her for a new candidate.

Helena Guergis doesn't need to win if she runs as an independent. All she has to do is take votes away from the official Conservative candidate and make that candidate lose to another candidate.

New Liberal candidate?

There have been rumours about the Liberals courting her for the riding. If that's true, I would say that's a strategically dumb move.

Skinny Dipper pretty much has it.

More than likely if Guergis ran as an independent, she splits the right and the Liberal candidate, whomever that may be could come through the middle.

Remember, the enemy of your enemy is your friend. The Grits courting her would be a stupid move. Just let her fight as an indie and win Simcoe-Grey by splitting the vote.

And for God-sake don't parachute anyone! Not sure if there's been a nomination in that riding or not, but if not then choose someone with deep local roots there as a candidate. That means a great deal in rural Ontario ...just ask John Tory.
